Hans was born in Belgium and held a Master’s in Political Sciences from the University of Leuven. He fell in love with South Africa during a visit and decided to stay and make South Africa his home. Hans has been building fresh produce businesses in South Africa for the past 25 years and has created several enduring brands in the industry. Owner and manager of the Unlimited Group, where he particularly enjoys driving innovation and sustainability. Passionate about flavour. He lives in the Winelands with his wife Farah and their three teenage children. A keen swimmer and an enthusiastic yet slow runner. Loves electronic music and festivals. Aspiring vegetarian.
Barry is a CA(SA), having studied at the University of Stellenbosch, did his honours degree through UNISA, and completed his articles at PWC. He has 28 years of experience in various senior financial positions, including six years at a JSE listed company. Barry joined the Unlimited Group as CFO in 2009 and, as such, has gained 13 years of experience in the fresh produce industry. His knowledge, business acumen and level-headedness are ideal for helping steer the group into a future filled with challenges and opportunities. Barry is married to Estelle with two children all grown up.
Brian is a Non-executive Director at Unlimited Group, appointed by the IDC to represent its interest in the Board of Directors of the Group. Brian has been working in the development finance space for over 25 years. At the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), among other DFIs. Brian is married to Nellie and has three children (a daughter and two sons.)
Spencer is the Founder and Managing Director of the Lona Group, a diversified agribusiness encompassing growing, packing, branded foods, local and international marketing, cold storage and logistics. He enjoys identifying opportunities to scale and diversifying the business and maximising synergies between their various investments. He loves rugby, swimming, mountain biking, snowboarding, eating out, time with family and friends. Spencer is married to Saskia with two teenage boys.
Francis Petersen is the Rector & Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Free State in South Africa. He has formerly been Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, Dean: Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment at the University of Cape Town, the Executive Head: Strategy at Anglo American Platinum, Executive Vice-President: Research and Development at Mintek, and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Cape Technikon (now the Cape Peninsula University of Technology). He also serves as a non-executive director on numerous other boards. Francis is married to Cheslyn with two sons.
